Style Sunday - Bohemian Chic

Bohemian is often described as “A person, possibly an artist or writer, who lives and acts free of regard for conventional rules and practices”. Accessories in bohemian rooms should tell the story of the people who live there. Ornate boxes, vintage bottles, maps, and mismatched china – you name it. Bohemians travel so the items in a bohemian room should look like they've been collected from the world over.
This particular style is very close to my heart as my mum is an artist, if all things artistic and creative touches your soul this style is for you.
Bohemian interiors are eclectic with no specific rules. They are artistic, playful, colourful, with vintage elements and care free feel. The most common type of furniture you'll find in bohemian rooms is Victorian in nature.

A boho chic atmosphere is mostly created with the help of fabric: bedspreads, the upholstery of the furniture, rugs and curtains. Vintage furniture items play huge role in bohemian styling and so do crazy patterns. Boho styles can be neat and refined or absolutely crazy over the top hippiesque madness, either way whatever you choose it must have an artistic touch and definitely a soul.

A classic boho look: peeling, shabby chic walls are combined with oversized design elements such as the deep-buttoned bed head, lamps, chairs, pillows and cushions, antique furniture, artistic elements and artworks:

Here is an example of more refined type of Bohemian interior:

If you are not a fan of too much color and over the top decorations try adding Bohemian elements in to modern decor

When creating a bohemian style be brave with color palette, this is where you can let your imagination ran wild. Bohemean should look effortless and unplanned so go crazy with the colors

Bohemean is  all about creativity, try collecting interesting or even strange pieces from your overseas trips or thrift shops you never know what treasures you can find and add to your interior. Displaying your own art work is another great idea. Or displaying excessive amount of paintings and photos of different sizes and frames:

Oversizing is also important:

Use art deco lights, the larger the better. Mix styles:

Throwing in antique pieces of furniture is very important in creating Bohemian feel. Rustic elements are amazing especially combining with colors and different textures:

Bright fabrics with ethnic patterns from around the world.

What if you are a minimalist? You can still combine it together!

Try mixing Bohemian with romantic, vintage,  rustic styles like images I have used to day.
