Chic and Feminine by Megan Hess

Megan Hess is an international fashion and editorial illustrator based in Melbourne, Australia . Be prepared to be blown away by her incredible apartment... Megan shares her home with her husband, architect Craig Yelland and their two children. Their four bedroom penthouse is located on the roof of an 18th century church and it is nothing but feminine and chic!

“I initially thought the space was completely crazy,” she said. “It was the entire roof of an 18th century church! The location was perfect and it was enormous BUT it was a roof. Craig took photos, scanned them into the computer and started to show me where we would put walls and how it would work (the perks of being married to an architect!). As soon as I saw that I knew it would be perfect.”

"The kids have their own area where they can play, make mess and hang out, and the “parents’ area” is a retreat from it all. “I feel like my pulse goes down the second I walk into that space,” says Megan.
They chose to work with the unusual ceiling spaces, not against them, keeping the integrity of the building and its original shape. “We made them the feature of each space. The great thing about them is that we could go crazy with lights.”

I discovered Megan's work quite recently, i saw her book " Fashion House"  at my local bookstore and got blown away buy her talent and class.  These days, Hess' glamorous beauties are rare in the sexed-up realm of high-fashion illustration and photography. "I love to draw women who obviously enjoy their beauty," she says. "They use fashion in a way that's not passive, but a form of expression and it's not always about men."

Black-framed photographs and a giant canvas of Audrey Hepburn are mounted on the high white walls, and one of Hess' own drawings — a sinewy beauty with regal stare and tangled pile of hair — dominates the lounge room.
